FAQs

The basic recipe for soap is oil, water, and lye (sodium hydroxide). We use several variations of this basic recipe to create our soaps. We first decide what specific purpose we want the bar to serve then formulate the recipe to achieve that purpose. Some of the oils we use are olive, sunflower, avocado, castor and sustainably-sourced palm oil. For the water component we use distilled water or sometimes replace that with milks (coconut milk, goat’s milk), or aloe vera juice. If you’re looking for a specific ingredient just type it into the search bar and all of the products with that ingredient will pop up.

It’s difficult to answer this question for everyone because each person’s skin has unique characteristics. Below are some soaps to consider for general skin types/conditions. Please check ingredient lists to screen for any individual allergies.

Rosacea or Eczema – Coconut Flax, good for face and body. We have many customers who have shared that this bar has significantly improved their eczema and/or rosacea.

Acne-prone skin – Charcoal Detox (scented or unscented), good for face and body 2-3 times per week. Pair the Charcoal Detox bar with any other bar in this list that applies to your skin type, e.g. Rosemary Clay for oily skin. Use the second bar on days you are not using the Charcoal Detox bar.

Oily skin – Rosemary Clay, good for face and body.

Dry skin – Any of our milk-based soaps are great for extra moisture, e.g. Honey and Goat’s Milk, Lemon Creamsicle, or Coconut Flax. These bars are all good for face and body. That said, our soaps are natural, they retain all of the glycerin that is produced in the soap making process. This means that they are super moisturizing. Also check out our lotion bars and body butters to lock in even more moisture.

All skin types – Shea Lavender Basil, good for face and body.

The key difference is glycerin! Glycerin is a natural by-product of soap. It is amazing because it actually draws moisture to the skin. Commercially-manufactured soaps are well-known for extracting the glycerin from soaps to sell it separately. Our soaps are much more moisturizing than commercially-manufactured soaps. Another difference is that our soap is actually soap. Did you know that the FDA restricts companies from using the word “soap” on their labels if their recipe does not include lye (sodium hydroxide)? If a bar doesn’t include lye it is classified as detergent. This is why you see many bars labeled things like ‘beauty bar’. You can rest assured that our soaps are not only loaded with glycerin, they are truly soaps!

We definitely do! Scents that are specifically marketed for men (and loved by women too) are Barbershop, Twilight Woods, The Woodsman, and Bourbon Tobacco. You can find these scents on the For Him page of our website.

Lotion bars are solid and body butters have a creamy consistency. Lotion bars are great for traveling (does not need to be checked in at an airport), keeping in your car or purse. Body butters are whipped and more sensitive to heat. This is why we do not ship body butters in the warmer seasons of the year. Both are made with luscious butters and rich oils. Both offer incredible moisture to the skin.

Yes…and no. Lye is a mandatory ingredient in soap. Without it, you would have a detergent instead of soap that is safe for the skin. Lye can be a scary ingredient – it can burn! But once it is blended with the oils and water, a chemical reaction occurs between the lye and fatty acids in the oils. This chemical reaction creates an entirely new substance – soap! Lye, as it was when it was added into the batter, is no longer present.

Typically, we ship orders on the day it is placed or the following day. In our almost 8 years of business, we have never taken more than 3 days to process an order. All of our orders are shipped via USPS. Once shipped, your order may take 2 to 3 days depending on where you live in the United States. These timeframes are controlled by the USPS, e.g. during holiday seasons. We email the USPS tracking number to you at the time of shipping so that you can stay up-to-date on when your order will arrive. Where are you located?

Probably. Please contact us as soon as possible after your order has been placed. If it has not yet been processed, we would be glad to make changes. This includes adding or removing products and/or address changes. Unfortunately, we are not able to make changes after your order has been processed.
